What of the
future? Top of the list is the progression to AM (Medium
Wave) broadcasting on domestic radios, in addition to the current
bedside headset and TV sound channel distribution systems. Subject
to fundraising, the station aims to have this in place during
2004/2005
The whole hospital radio and TV
distribution system has been replaced in 2004 by order of
the Government. This now offers listeners a better and wider choice
of services. Currently, the station is broadcasting on channel 3 on
the dayroom speakers and also on most TVs (channel 6). The
station now also broadcasts on Patientline channel 6 on each bedside
unit.
Attracting and retaining reliable
volunteers to present programmes is always a problem throughout
hospital radio. So another exciting project is some programme
sharing with our friends at Grimsby's hospital radio service GHR.
New digital landlines between the sites open up the possibility of
producing a few live programmes applicable to both stations.
Discussions and tests about how this would work are taking place. it
would be likely that some programmes at certain times would be
presented here at Radio Medica and networked live to GHR, with a
reciprocal arrangement from GHR providing some live networking to
Radio Medica.
