Ken Shires -
Chairman
Twenty years ago Ken's wife joined Radio
Medica and not long after he followed her. I worked through most
roles in the organisation culminating with being Chairman and a
presenter.
His main job these days is encouraging
the rest of the members as they are the driving force of the future,
that will carry Radio Medica forward.
Dennis Hartley -
Secretary
Dennis is one of the newer recruits
to the station and has had over ten years experience with
Hospital Radio before joining Radio Medica.
He is a presenter of weekend programmes
including news features and horoscopes and has featured decades
across fifty years of music.
Dennis is a sales executive ,travelling
the north of England and Scotland, and his favourite decade is
the 60s playing Cliff, Elvis and The
Beatles.
Paul Stellings - Station
Manager
As well as researching, presenting and
producing his Saturday rock and information based show Saturday
Flight, Paul looks after general day-to-day station issues such as
programming the computer with new music, programme scheduling and
working with Julian the engineer to improve the stations' facilities and applying for grants. He
joined Radio Medica after a trial and was given his own Saturday
show which he still presents today. After becoming established with the team he was appointed
Station Manager with a brief spell as
Chairman.
Julian Watson -
Engineer
Julian started at Radio Medica when he
was 16 and was given an evening show to present with a colleague. He
moved from the old St John's Hospital to the new hospital where he
helped build the studio. Julian is now the station engineer,
concentrating on the second studio and developing more hi-tech
systems for the time the station gets its full time AM broadcasting
licence.
Gary Booth -
Promotions
I joined Radio Medica in April 1999.
I always wanted to be a DJ on hospital radio because I knew I
would be able to play what I wanted, but I always thought it was a
closed door and the waiting list would be long and if I did get
aslot it would be at 2 o clock in the morning.
However just how wrong could I be
only to find they were crying out for people and I soon noticed how
friendly everybody was in the station and made me very welcome. I
remember how complicated it all looked but the other members were
very kind and laughed with me rather than at me.
My role in Radio Medica is
promotions... which basically means keeping the stations profile
high in the minds of the public. I also do two shows a week, The
Segue which is non stop easy listening and Medica Country on Sundays.
